Raising awareness among humanitarian donors

LEGS is developing a half-day awareness-raising session targeted at humanitarian donors.

In collaboration with ECHO in Nairobi, presentations and exercises from the LEGS 3-day training module were adapted into the shorter donor session, and piloted in June 2010. There were 12 people present from ECHO, the EC delegation and FAO. The aims of the session were: to raise awareness about the purpose and contents of LEGS; to share information on LEGS activities; and to give a taste of the LEGS training process.

 The session included:

 - A presentation on the background to LEGS

- An exercise from the LEGS training on distinguishing between standards, key indicators and guidance notes

- An exercise on livelihoods and the impact of disasters (slow and rapid onset) on livestock

- An exercise to complete a PRIM in groups for a drought in northern Kenya

- Discussion on the current LEGS training programme and future activities

LEGS is now planning to work with other donors to apply this 3-4 hour session more widely. For more information contact the LEGS Coordinator
