How to organise a LEGS Training Course

LEGS aims to improve the quality and livelihoods impact of livestock-related projects in humanitarian situations.

LEGS Core Training Courses: In-person

Below are instructions on how to organise an in-person LEGS Core Training Course (formerly called the “3-day LEGS Training Course”), including a list of everything you need.

Read the Summary of the LEGS Training Policy for more details.

Who is the LEGS Core Training for?

The LEGS Core Training, both in-person and online courses, is designed to build the capacity of both livestock experts and humanitarian specialists in livestock-based emergency response planning and implementation. The LEGS Approach and LEGS Core Training enable humanitarian specialists and livestock specialists to work hand-in-hand to create effective emergency responses.

How can I organise a LEGS Core Training: In-person course?

Interested organisations can commission the LEGS Core Training: In-person course from any of the Accredited In-person Trainers in their country or region. LEGS Trainers have completed the TOT, and are equipped with the proper skills, methods and training materials.

If there is no one from your country listed, please contact LEGS who can put you in touch with local LEGS Trainers who have not yet been accredited. Only LEGS Trainers are authorised to deliver the LEGS Core Training.

What do I need for a LEGS Core Training: In-person course?

In order to organise a LEGS Core Training: In-person course, you will need the following:

  • A LEGS Trainer: If the Trainer is employed, you may be able to come to an arrangement with his/her employer for their time. If he/she is a consultant, you will need to pay their daily fee rate.
  • Copies of the LEGS handbook: You must have a copy for each participant. Hardcopy handbooks are available for purchase from the publisher; they are also available in bulk. Alternatively you can print out copies using the free pdf version.
  • Handouts: The LEGS Trainer will provide training handouts and other materials.
  • A suitable venue: LEGS recommends a maximum of 24 participants for participatory training, and a room that allows movement for group work, exercises and energisers.

Are you planning a LEGS Core Training course?

Please contact LEGS if you would like to further information on how to organise either an in-person or online course. LEGS cannot provide funding for any Core Training courses, but we are happy to provide advice, information and guidance.
