Two LEGS Core Training courses were organised by CEPREDENAC – the Central American organisation for disaster prevention, mitigation and response. The first took place in Monte Cristi from 29-31 July 2025, followed by a second session in Santo Domingo from 5-7 August 2025.
A total of 35 participants (21 men and 14 women), mainly from different government institutions, took part. Through a combination of presentations, group work, and participatory exercises, they strengthened their knowledge on applying LEGS to design and implement livestock-based interventions during emergencies.
Course evaluations reflected a high level of satisfaction. Participants highlighted the direct relevance of the training to their professional work, particularly in designing interventions, strengthening planning decisions, and ensuring that livestock considerations are properly addressed during disasters. Participants appreciated the interactive methodology, practical group exercises, and clear facilitation.
These LEGS courses represent a significant step forward for disaster risk management and humanitarian response in the Dominican Republic, equipping professionals with internationally recognised standards to protect livelihoods and food security in times of crisis.
